Porter Park sits on Delmar Boulevard in St. Louis, an axis of segregation dividing the cultural and historical core into black and white. A long road growing from Park intersects with this place, granting it some prestige that ties it to the history of the World’s Fair, held in Forest Park in 1904. The axis culminates in the St. Louis History Museum and Art Museum, where the citizens showcase the pride of their roots and city. The park provides a point of transition between invisible boundaries of race, economy, and society, and allows people to breathe with human warmth in communion with the city.
